The Kallir Research Institute is the repository for nearly a century of Egon Schiele scholarship, begun by Otto Kallir in the 1920s. Otto Kallir published the first catalogue raisonné of Schiele’s paintings in 1930, updated it in 1966, and issued a catalogue raisonné of the artist’s prints in 1972. Otto’s granddaughter, Jane Kallir, followed up with the first comprehensive catalogue of Schiele’s work in all media in 1990 (expanded edition, 1998). In 2018, the Kallir Research Institute launched egonschieleonline.org, a digitized catalogue raisonné that brought the entries on the artist’s oils, prints, sketchbooks and sculptures up to date. We are presently in the process of updating the entries on Schiele’s watercolors and drawings, which number in excess of 2,000. In tandem with this project, we will be compiling dossiers on collectors who figure prominently in the provenances, with special emphasis on individuals who were affected by the Holocaust. Watch for updates as new information is added to egonschieleonline.

The Kallir Research Institute provides opinions on the authenticity of works not included in the published or online Schiele catalogues raisonnés. Please contact us for further information.
