Max Beckmann: The Paintings
2021
Dr. Anja Tiedemann
Kaldewei Cultural Foundation, Ahlen, in collaboration with the Bayerischen
Staatsgemäldesammlungen – Max Beckmann Archive, Munich, and the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
200 limited and numbered copies in two volumes. More than 700 color images.
Dr. Anja Tiedemann’s new catalogue raisonné of the paintings of celebrated second-generation German Expressionist Max Beckmann (1884-1950) offers the most complete (and colorful) record to date of the artist’s oils. Max Beckmann: The Paintings reproduces over 700 of Beckmann’s 843 paintings in full color, and includes new transcriptions of his personal journals and records, as well as never-before-published excerpts from the diaries of his wife, Mathilde.
Built upon Barbara and Erhard Göpel’s original 1976 text, the new volume has been updated, corrected, and supplemented with the financial and editorial support of the Kaldewei Kulturstiftung, Ahlen, in cooperation with the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen—Max Beckmann Archive, Munich. Tiedemann’s catalogue takes an innovative approach: each painting’s entry is accompanied by a QR code redirecting to the corresponding entry in the digital catalogue raisonné, granting scholars and admirers alike access to the latest information.
Max Beckmann: The Paintings has been issued in a two-volume, leather-bound limited edition of 200 numbered copies, and is available for purchase exclusively through Galerie Thomas in Munich. The digital component of this resource is live and accessible to all, free of charge.
